Handling Difficult Customer Calls Regarding Psychological Fitness for Duty Evaluations

 

About the Presenter


David C. Fisher, Ph.D., LP, ABPP

David Fisher is a Diplomate in Clinical Psychology and has been president of PsyBar LLC since 1995.  Dr. Fisher oversees psychological and psychiatric fitness for duty and violence risk assessments performed across the country through a network of 1200 psychologists and psychiatrists.  He is a recipient of the Innovative Practice award, given by the President of the American Psychological Association, in recognition of the innovations in psychological assessment he introduced through PsyBar.   He frequently lectures on psychiatric and psychological assessment, and has developed assessment protocols used by psychologists and psychiatrists nationally.   

About the Program

Dr. Fisher will lead a discussion with EAP professionals on frequently asked questions regarding fitness for duty evaluations and the EAP’s proper role.  Ten (10) key questions which will be discussed with the attendees will include:

  1. Why can’t you, our EAP, do this assessment?
  2. Why can’t you, our EAP, tell us whether or not to do a FFDE?
  3. Why can’t we send the employee to his or her treating doctor for a FFDE?
  4. There are many doctors in that area.  Why can’t we set the appointment up with one of them tomorrow?
  5. We usually get long detailed reports from doctors.  Why didn’t this FFDE doctor do a good job and write a full report?
  6. Why would your doctor ever want to talk with the employee’s supervisor?  What does that have to do with a psychological evaluation?  And why should we release this employee’s performance reviews?  Won’t they just bias the doctor?
  7. I need to know if the doctor recommends termination or disciplinary actions.
  8. Why does this cost so much?
  9. Why can’t we have the employee pay for the evaluation?
  10. Why can’t a union representative sit in on the interview and testing?

Participants will have a chance to ask questions.
