About the Program

The Department of Transportation Procedures for Transportation Workplace Drug and Alcohol Testing Programs outlines the duties of the Substance Abuse Professional (SAP).  However, it does not cover nuances, pitfalls and the practical.  This workshop offers practical guidance and collegial comfort for the weary SAP.

Learning Objectives:

  • Name five of the top ten reasons for becoming a SAP.
  • Identify the basic elements of a SAP evaluation checklist.
  • Describe the information the SAP should insist the DER provide?
  • Name the paperwork that should be signed at the initial SAP evaluation?
  • Name the clinical information that must not appear on a DOT SAP evaluation?
  • Describe what the SAP must do when the employee denies a substance abuse problem or objects to a treatment recommendation.
  • Explain “Rehabilitation Agreement”
  • Describe how treatment compliance is monitored.
  • Describe what must be included on the follow-up evaluation report.
