Mark A Hyde, MA

Mark A. Hyde, MA in Counselor Education and is a Certified Employee Assistance Professional by the national “Employee Assistance Professionals Association.” Mark has been working with individuals and teams in the workplace for the past 20 years.  Prior to working as a workplace consultant, he has held positions in management, sales and a variety of counseling positions.  He is a popular speaker and trainer on a host work place issues.  He has presented to both national and international audiences.  Mark is a regular guest on KROC radio in Rochester, Minnesota where he discusses a number of work related topics.

Robin G. Molella, M.D.

Dr. Robin G. Molella, a Sharon, Conn., native, is a consultant in the Division of Preventive and Occupational Medicine at Mayo Clinic. Dr. Molella is a key contributor to the Health Management Programs and Health Promotion Campaigns on Mayo Clinic Web sites and the medical editor of the Working Life Center. She is board certified in internal medicine and preventive and occupational medicine, was a captain in the U.S. Army from 1990 to 1994 and joined the Mayo Clinic staff in 1999. She has a master's degree in public health from the University of Minnesota. Dr. Molella's research interests include using the Internet as a tool for health promotion, special population health, improving health by improving health care delivery systems, and the impact of community social structure on health care.

Philip Hagen, M.D.

Philip Hagen, M.D., Medical Director Mayo Clinic EmbodyHealth Programs, Mayo Clinic Health Solutions. Dr. Hagen is also an Assistant Professor in Internal Medicine, Mayo Clinic College of Medicine, and is board certified in internal medicine preventive medicine. Dr. Hagen attended Mayo School of Graduate Medical Education, where he received his M.D. degree in 1983. He was appointed to the Mayo Clinic staff in 1988. Dr. Hagen is a nationally recognized expert in the utilization of computers in health care. For more than a decade, Dr. Hagen has been leading the development of population health management resources. He also provided developmental direction for Mayo Clinic's electronic medical record software and the Mayo Clinic Health Risk Assessment. He became a Medical Director for Mayo Clinic Health Solutions because of his interest in helping people make lifestyle changes through health education.

The following will be discussed in this presentation:

Upon completion of this session participants will:

  1. Recognize the value of a well defined relationship between EAP providers and physicians.
  2. They will understand the confidentiality issues affecting communications.
  3. Be able to list three common triggers that would generate consultation between EAP and MD.
  4. Be able to structure effective communication.
  5. Be able to list 4 medical conditions which masquerade as behavioral and or performance problems.
  6. Understand the resources your MD is able to utilize to clarify behavioral or work performance issues.
