About the Presenters

Facilitators Bernie McCann

Bernie McCann has developed workplace educational seminars, provided leadership and supervisory training, taught university and community college courses, addressed community and business groups and made presentations at numerous professional development and educational conferences. His areas of expertise include substance abuse, stress management, employee assistance programs, drug testing, workplace violence, human relations, sexual harassment, and others. He has written chapters and published articles in Mental Health in the US 2002, The Journal of Occupational Psychology, The Laborer, the EAPA Exchange, the EAP Digest, Small Business EAP Newsletter, Employee Assistance--Solutions to the Problems, Workplace Violence Facts and has been interviewed in Business and Health, Managed Healthcare, The National Substance Abuse Report, The Washington Post, Laborlink, and others.

A Certified Employee Assistance Practitioner (CEAP) since 1989, he is a Qualified Substance Abuse Professional, as defined by the US Department of Transportation, (49 CFR Part 40) which permits him to conduct evaluations of employees in safety-sensitive functions who have violated a DOT drug and alcohol regulation and make recommendations concerning education, treatment, follow-up testing, and aftercare. Bernie graduated from the University of Maryland with a Bachelor of Science in Community Health Studies, from Loyola College with a Master of Science in Counseling Psychology, and is currently pursuing his Doctorate in Health Policy at Brandeis University’s Schneider Institute for Behavioral Health, courtesy of a National Institute of Alcohol and Alcoholism research training fellowship.

 

About the Program

This presentation will provide current incidence rates of co-occuring disorders in the general population and in the workplace/EA population. A summary of recent research findings, clinical treatment advances and contemporary approaches to case management will be provided which have the potential to increase positive outcomes for co-occuring disorders in the EAP setting.

Participants will have a chance to ask questions.
